This quilt has been machine embroidered with beautiful details and features vintage handkerchiefs. Must see in person! From the donor: Butterflies in Flight is a quilt in memory of Marian Peters, our dear friend that we miss every day. The butterflies are made of handkerchiefs that belonged to Marian. When she passed her daughter Dawn asked if there was something I could use the hankies for. I said that I would like to make a quilt that we would donate to Camp Carol Joy Holling for the quilt auction they have each year. Dawn thought that would be something her mom would want, to help the camp that helps many young people find the way to Jesus in their lives. Marian was a very unique person and I thought it would be a different way of quilting this quilt so it was as unique as Marian was. I decided to use embroidered butterflies to quilt this quilt together. I used three different shades of burgundy in the embroidery process to give the quilt a unique quality to show depth in the flight of all the butterflies. This quilt was pieced, appliqued, and embroidered by Rita Gustafson, a member of the Salem Quilters of the Salem Lutheran church in Wakefield, Neb.
